Speaker Bio
Raised on his family’s farm in Bliss, Idaho, Alan Hansten has always had roots deep in the local soil. A double-degree alumnus in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Idaho (Go Vandals!), Alan spent 15 years as a consulting civil engineer working on everything from local highways and airports to land development.
In 2013, he stepped into his current role as General Manager of the North Side Canal Company. Today, Alan leads a team of 65 keeping 900 miles of canals flowing—delivering vital irrigation water to 155,000 acres of farmland along the Snake River between Hazelton and King Hill, operating three hydroelectric plants, and managing critical aquifer recharge projects.
When he’s not keeping the water moving, you’ll usually find Alan up in the air as a private pilot or out enjoying the Idaho wilderness—whether that’s camping, hunting, or fishing. He and his wife, Sheri, are proud parents to two adult daughters who are carrying on the Vandal family tradition and pursuing advanced degrees in agricultural communications and food science.
